For information about obtaining a Florida driver license, contact one of local offices operated by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles in Polk County. The offices are:

Lakeland, 3249 Lakeland Hills Blvd. 863-499-2323.

Haines City, 930 Lily Ave. E. 863-421-3201.

Lake Wales, 692 State Road 60 W. 863-678-4160.

The offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

License fees increased in late 2009.

Drivers licenses now cost $48, a state-issued ID card costs $25 and a CDL costs $75.

You can renew your license in person or on-line.

If you renew in person, there are a couple of things to keep in mind.

Officials recommend making an appointment to save time.

Beginning Jan. 1, Florida law changed and people applying for new driver licenses, registering a name change or replacing a lost or stolen license will have to present additional identification.

If you're unsure what you need, call or check on-line before going.

Information and renewal applications are available from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' Web site at www.flhsmv.gov.
