Polk County Tax Collector's Office
Tax Collector Joe Tedder’s office handles vehicle registration tags as well as the property taxes assessed by cities, counties and special districts.
The office also takes care of local business tax receipt payments and tourist development tax payments.
The office also sells fishing or hunting licenses.
OFFICES
The Tax Collector has four offices open Monday to Friday, except for holidays. They are:
Bartow, main office, 430 E. Main St., 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 863-534-4700.
Haines City, 74 Maxcy Plaza Circle, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 863-298-7576.
Lakeland Polk County Government Center, 930 E. Parker St., Suite 261, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 863-603-6497.
Lake Wales, 658 State Road 60 West, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 863-678-4670.
In Winter Haven, the Legion Tax Agency provides motor vehicle transactions, such as titles and license plates. The office is in American Legion Post 8 at 300 Ave. M N.W. It is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 863-298-7576.
DEADLINES
The deadlines for paying taxes are:
March 31: All real estate property taxes and tangible personal property taxes are due in full. Unpaid taxes will be declared delinquent.
April 1: New businesses seeking to obtain a local business tax receipt will be assessed one-half of the cost of an annual license.
April 30: All applications for next year’s property tax payment installment plan are due.
August: The Property Appraiser’s Office mails out Truth In Millage notices informing property owners of new assessed property values and proposed property tax rates.
Also in August, the renewal of annual county business tax receipts begins.
Sept. 30: The deadline for renewing all county local business tax receipts.
Dec. 31: Mobile home owners, who do not also own the property on which their mobile home is sitting, must renew their mobile home annual registration and decal.
This is also the deadline for trucks and trailers weighing more than 5,000 pounds and for all nine-passenger automobiles for hire.
