Green Swamp Wildlife Management Area

Unpaved trails also are found in the Green Swamp Wildlife Management Area. Bicycles are allowed on the trails. Those who plan to go mountain biking should check for hunting season regulations and times online at www.watermatters.org. />The Green Swamp has a bird list containing 155 species, ranging from wild turkeys to bluebirds and chickadees, according to a yearlong count completed in late 2007.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District and the South Florida Water Management District offer a number of recreation sites.

Swiftmud’s sites in Polk County are primarily in the Green Swamp. SFWMD’s sites are along the Kissimmee River. For information on Swiftmud’s recreation sites, go to
