The Social Security Administration has two offices in Polk County.

Answers to many questions can be obtained by calling the agency's toll-free, national customer service line at 800-772-1213 or going onto its Web site at www.socialsecurity.gov.

To speak to a customer service representative, call between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays, except holidays.

By calling the toll-free number, clients can:

Apply for a Social Security card or request a replacement card.

Make an appointment to file for benefits.

Report changes that affect checks.

Ask about when to file for benefits.

Ask about earnings limits.

Ask general questions about Social Security, Medicare or Supplemental Security Income.
