Matthew Tutt was killed by Polk County Sheriff's deputies who had stopped him for riding his bicycle without lights at 2:30 a.m., according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies said Tutt appeared cooperative at first then pulled out a pistol and began shooting them. Both officers -- Paul Fairbanks III, 58, and Mike Braswell, 32, -- were shot several times. Fairbanks was critically wounded. Braswell's wounds were less severe, and he returned fire, hitting Tutt several times and killing him.
