Asalat and Cody Melarkey went to the North Lakeland apartment complex to purchase marijuana. The two men (Asalat and Melarkey) exited their vehicle and were in the breezeway of an apartment complex when they made contact with three men who attempted to rob them. Asalat was shot and later died of his injuries at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Two suspects have been arrested: Juan Romondo Jones, 18, and LaQuan Keon Henderson, 18, both of Lakeland.
