CUISINE AND ATMOSPHERE: Granger and Sons serves as a pleasant reminder of the thriving southern regionalism below the Mason Dixon line. Even as far south as Central Florida, you can bet that if you point your car toward farmland there will be a tiny roadside barbecue joint somewhere outside "the city," with a home-grown staff ready and poised to please. Whether you sit inside or out at Granger, there's a good chance you'll overhear a pair of farmers talking shop, or perhaps the hum of nearby cicadas.

WHAT'S NEW: A prominent list of daily specials, including hamburgers on Tuesdays, pork chops on Wednesdays and Friday Steak-K-Bobs.

WHAT I LIKED: The heaping pork sandwich ($6.45) comes sliced, not pulled -- a better vehicle for the zippy barbecue sauce (or hot sauce, even) provided at each table. The kitchen doesn't skimp when it comes to portions, so go with an appetite. The ribs, thick and mostly moist, could do with an enhanced standalone kick, the barbecue sauce did the heavy lifting. Both the potato salad and cole slaw complemented the small rib plate ($7) nicely, each with a dash of unexpected dill to boot. Everything washes down nicely with free refills of Coca-Cola ($1.49).

PRICE RANGE: $2 to $20

FYI: Be prepared to wait in line during lunch hours.
