In a historic rainy affair, Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning threw for 247 yards, one touchdown and one interception to lead the Colts. Chicago’s Devin Hester became the first player to return the opening kickoff for a touchdown but his Bears trailed 16-14 at the half. It was 22-17 going into the fourth when Kelvin Hayden picked off Chicago’s Rex Grossman and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown. Dominic Rhodes and Joseph Addai combined to rush for 190 yards for Indianapolis. Their coach, Tony Dungy, became the first black head coach to win the Super Bowl. Thomas Jones rushed for 112 yards for Chicago.
