VPK is Florida's Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program. Children who turn 4 years old by Sept. 1 and and Florida residents are eligible to participate in the free program.
The Florida Department of Education/State Board of Education is required by law to calculate a kindergarten readiness rate every year for each private or public VPK provider; this applies to both school-year (540-hours) and summer (300-hour) programs.
The VPK Provider Kindergarten Readiness Rate measures how well a VPK provider prepares 4-year-olds to be ready for kindergarten based uon Florida's VPK Education Standards. The VPK standards describe what 4-year-old children should know and be able to do by the end of the VPK experience
